Horror Film Locations: The Exorcist Stairs

The Exorcist Steps

Location: 1307 M St. NW, Washington DC

On our first excursion we are visiting the famous stairs used in the film The Exorcist. You know, the ones in which poor Father Damien Karras falls down? They are located in the Georgetown district of Washington DC and consist of 75 steps. They were padded so that the stunt man wouldn’t get too hurt, and he went down them not once but twice. It used to have the nickname ‘The Hitchcock Steps’ which is just as fitting in my opinion! Punk squatters used to populate them back in the 80’s but now they are used by area college students and the young upwardly mobile to exercise on. Bloofer Lady used to live in DC for a short while and she can testify that they are indeed spooky and quite creepy!
